Savannah/Richmond 2015

This is my photo journal of a trip with my mother (Flora) to Savannah GA and Richmond VA May 2 - May 10.

Savannah

We began our trip together on Saturday at Philadelphia PA's 30th Street Station. Flora took Amtrak from Greensburg PA, and I took Amtrak from Washington DC. From Philly, we took the Midnight Train to Georgia, and arrived in Savannah very early Sunday morning. We stowed our bags at the hotel and took advantage of their offer of free breakfast, then strolled around though the squares until we arrived at the historic Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist. We circled back to the Savannah River, and rode around on the ferry. Then we visited the SCAD museum, where we saw a special exhibit of clothing made by Oscar de la Renta for famous people. We stopped for some cheesy grits at Clary's, then made our way back down to the river via the City Market area, where there always seems to be live music in the streets. For dinner, we went to Hueys-on-the-river for crawfish. Monday we began the day at Massie Heritage Center, then strolled around the city until we ended up in Forsyth Park. Finally we made our way to Paula Dean's restaurant. Tuesday we made our way through the city and its lovely squares, and arrived at Massie Heritage Center for their May-Day festival. Then we visited the Civil Rights Museum, and ended our final day on the river watching taffy being made at River Street Sweets, and had po boys and beignets at Hueys-on-the-River.
